In short
Hardwood floor repair fixes localized damage — scratches, dents, water-stained or rotted boards, squeaks and damaged stair treads — so the floor looks and feels sound again. Mirror Image Wood Flooring also restores older and antique floors in homes across the Bangor region back to their original color and character.

- Squeaky floors and loose or creaky stair treads
- Subfloor repair under soft or bouncy spots
- Gaps, holes from old heating registers or removed walls
Restoring older Maine homes
Many homes in Bangor and the surrounding towns have original hardwood hiding under carpet, linoleum or layers of old finish. With careful repair and refinishing, those floors can often be brought back — keeping the character of the home and avoiding the cost of new flooring. Before-and-after results from local homes are in our project gallery.
Repair & Restoration: common questions
Can you match new boards to my existing floor?
In most cases, yes. Replacement boards are matched by species, width and grain, and the repaired area is blended with the rest of the floor — usually by refinishing the room so the color is consistent.
Can water-damaged hardwood be saved?
Light surface water marks often sand out. Boards that are cupped, rotted or deeply stained black usually need to be replaced. The moisture source should be fixed first so the damage doesn't return.
Do you fix squeaky stairs and floors?
Yes. Squeaks are usually caused by loose boards or subfloor movement, and can be fixed by re-securing the boards or subfloor.
